Dear colleagues,
This is a brief update on ASA SA Branch response to the closure plus some additional SA information:
1. The petition prepared by Anne Picot has been circulated to SA Branch Members and many, many sheets have already been completed.
2. The ASA SA Branch has prepared a protest letter which will be finalised and forwarded to the Minister (Senator Joe
Ludwig) & other politicians (both federal & state).
3. SA History Council has already sent an excellent letter to Senator Ludwig.
4. John Bannon (SA History Council chair) will issue the same letter to the media with an accompanying press release.
5. http://www.historycouncilsa.org.au has a link to "What you can do" in response to the closure which is very useful.
6. History Trust of SA has also written to the Minister and Ross Gibbs.
7. Jack Cross (Friends of SA Archives Chair) has prepared and presented a briefing to the Labour Party.
8. An article is being prepared for the RMAA iQ journal with input from SA, Tas & NT.
9. Amongst other local radio & print media coverage, Channel 10 Adelaide news has an item on the Adelaide closure scheduled for tonight
Friday 4 Dec (note, it could be bumped to the weekend or Monday depending on what else happens in the world).
10. Not to mention almost 300 members on Jenny Scott's Save NAA facebook page!
Clearly there is widespread opposition to the closures, and this is only the beginning...
Regards,
Kylie Percival
(SA Branch Convenor)
