History Council of Western Australia inaugural President, Professor Jenny Gregory and our current
President, Dr Sue Graham-Taylor have both been recognised for their work and achievements in this
year’s awards. History Council member, Professor David Black was also honoured in the same
category.

for service to conservation and the environment through executive roles with a range of organisations,
through the development of protective measures relating to air quality and the management of waste, and as an
historian;
Sue
was the inaugural James Sykes Battye Memorial Fellow for her work on the history of the Swan River. Some of Sue's work can be viewed on a special

Professor Jenny Gregory AM
… for service to the community as an historian and academic
and through the promotion and preservation of local and regional history in Western Australia;
For
many years Jenny has taught history at the University of Western Australia's and is the author of historical works including 'City of Light: A
History of Perth Since the 1950s'. Most recently she has been the driving force behind the publication of the 'Historical Encyclopedia of Western
Australia' and is its co-editor with Jan Gothard. Jenny was also Inaugural President of the History Council of WA.

Professor David William Black AM
… for service to education and to the social sciences, particularly through the promotion and
preservation of the political and parliamentary history of WA;
For
more than 25 years, David has been Chairperson of the Parliamentary History Advisory Committee in WA, responsible for guiding the Western
Australian Parliamentary History Project and its oral history program. In 2004 he was appointed as a Parliamentary Fellow (History). David is the
author of numerous works including: 'House to House: The story of Western Australia's Government and Parliament Houses over 175 years', which he
co-authored with the late Phillip Pendal.
