NEW - CAN YOU HELP?
I'm a BBC produce currently in Perth. I'm working on a programme about the use of the very early telephone
as a medium for relaying live entertainment, church services, news etc - from c 1881 to c 1923. I wonder if anyone has an
interest in this (admittedly rather esoteric!!) subject and might be available for interview, please?
Many thanks

NEW Women’s History Month 2010 highlights women involved in food production.
The theme broadly spans Indigenous food harvest, viticulture, agricultural research, and more.
The National Archives hold related records on the Australian Women’s Land Army. Established during World
War II, the AWLA replaced male farm workers who had enlisted for service or were working in the munitions
industry.
The women – all volunteers – lived in rural hostels and grew vegetables, harvested wheat,
and farmed sheep. Read this Memento article (pg 3) to learn more about the wartime food production efforts of
Australian women.

NEW - AHA HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION BIENNIAL
CONFERNCE 5-9 JULY 2010
Reviewing History
For the first time since 1994, the Australian Historical Association Biennial conference will be held in
Perth at the University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame. It is a terrific opportunity to
present a paper or to participate in a very rich intellectual program without the cost of travel or
accommodation.
ReViewing History invites historians to assess the state of History. What are the debates? What are the
challenges? How are academic historians responding to challenges? The theme also invites discussion about popular interest
in History as explored through films, literature and ‘reality’ documentaries. Do these modes challenge academic historians?
There are many sub-themes and presenters are encouraged to consider their area of interest from the perspective of
ReViewing History. As the conference coincides with NAIDOC Week, papers dealing with Indigenous issues are especially
welcome
Early Bird Registration closes on 31 March 2010
Call for Papers closes on 31 March 2010
