John Hyde MLA has asked several questions in relation to the State Budget and to various cultural agencies. Here are two that members may find particularly interesting:

QON

Assembly 3109. Mr J.N. Hyde Premier; Treasurer; Minister For State Development

In relation to archives and record-keeping in every agency and department within the Premier's portfolio, I ask:

(a)        what is the volume of state archives currently held in:

(i) private sector storage facilities; and
(ii) government agencies awaiting transfer to the State Records Office; and

(b)        what is the annual cost to agencies and departments of private sector storage provision for state archives awaiting transfer to the State Records Office?

Question On NoticeNo. 3201 asked in the Legislative Assembly on 16 June 2010 by Mr J.N. Hyde
Question Directed to the: Minister for Culture and the Arts. Minister responding: Hon J.H.D. Day

Initial answers to previous Questions on Notice by the Minister (and other Ministers) regarding records and archives outsourcing describe annualised expenditure by the government agencies for which information is available of at least $3 million. On page 569 of the 2010–2011 State Budget, the fourth point refers to the lack of adequate storage space at the State Records Office, plus the lack of storage space for the State Art Collection. In relation the above, I ask:

(a)        as the Minister notes the problems with record storage and archiving in the State Budget, can the Minister detail the reasons for the problems and advise whether a problem exists in terms of the increasing costs of supplying records management services within a fully privatised model;

(b)        can the Minister detail how the Government knows it is getting value for money when some agencies cannot separately account for the cost of file retrievals versus the cost of storage services; and

(c)        what solutions are the Minister exploring to alleviate the storage problem for the State Art Collection?
