UWA Extension winter programme in
association with TheatrePush and the UWA Historical Society
The Old Dolphin Theatre, a renovated
wooden engineering shed on a site adjoining the present UWA Guild Buildings, was the first dedicated theatre on campus when it
opened in 1960, fifty years ago. For almost two decades, it hosted an astonishing
range of cutting-edge productions by diverse organisations in the community, as well as University groups. It was a starting point for many careers in the performing and creative arts, in Perth and
elsewhere.
Joan Pope and
Bill Dunstone, who acted and directed at The Dolphin, are researching the history of theatre at UWA. They have a fascinating array of illustrated material to share in a lively
discussion.
