Aileen Marwung Walsh, Councillor:

Aileen’s first degree was actually in anthropology, but she fell into history in 1996 after being asked to tutor in Aboriginal history with Tom Stannage and Jill Milroy as the first Indigenous History Tutor trainee with the history department at the University of Western Australia.  Aileen gained a second degree in Indigenous Australian Studies with first class honours from Curtin University and is currently undertaking a PhD at UWA, researching the 19th century names of Aboriginal people in the southwest of Western Australia, which includes their real Aboriginal names and the names they were given by the colonists.

Aileen was elected as one of two indigenous representatives on the History Council at the AGM in 2007 and has been re-elected in 2008 and 2009.
