Twenty two people from many educational sectors attended the forum organised by the History Council of Western Australia at the Constitutional Centre of WA.
The four universities, the WA Museum, the Curriculum Council, Department of Education, Australian Independent Schools Association and History Teachers’ Association of WA were all represented as well as the National Trust of Australia (WA).
Chaired by Glen Bennett the aim of the Forum was to provide opportunities for key stakeholders to share information on the implementation of the K-10 Australian History Curriculum and to plan for ways to improve support for primary and lower secondary teachers.
Speakers included Geoff Quinton from the Australian Curriculum (WA), Brian Roger from the Department of Education and Maree Whiteley from the Independent Schools sector (AISWA).
Following the speakers there was an open discussion on “The challenge of helping teachers and schools; What more is needed? What can we do?”
The forum was declared a success and the group will reconvene in the first half of 2012 to discuss further developments.
