Book Launch — 4 March 2019

image009.png

Monday 4 March 2019 (Labour Day holiday) marks the 25th anniversary of the Midland Government Railway Workshops closure in 1994. During much of the 20th century, the Workshops was the State’s largest industrial employer and the closure had a significant impact on the workforce, the suburb of Midland and the whole of Perth.

The launch of a new publication on the Workshops will mark the anniversary. A Natural Battleground. The fight to establish a rail heritage centre at Western Australia’s Midland Railway Workshops, by Bobbie Oliver, will be launched by the Hon Michelle Roberts, MLA, the Member for Midland. The book is the flagship publication for the new Red Swan Series by Melbourne-based publisher Interventions, which focuses on titles in radical labour history and politics.

The launch will take place at the Old Court House (behind the Midland Town Hall) at 10am on Monday 4 March.  Light refreshments.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase. All welcome. RSVP to Bobbie Oliver at: bobbie.oliver@uwa.edu.au by 28 February.
